Translation Copyright

 

When the copyright for an original work of the 'Korean Modern Novels' tag has expired, the work itself enters the public domain and can be freely used. However, translations are considered derivative works under copyright law. This means that while anyone may translate the original work without seeking permission, the translation itself is protected by copyright as the intellectual property of the translator.

Therefore, others may use the original text freely, but cannot reproduce or distribute a specific translation without the translator’s consent. Copyright protection for translations lasts for the same duration as other works, typically seventy years after the translator's death in accordance with the Copyright Act.
