Boiled Tofu with soy sauce

 Tofu is made of soy and good source of protein. It can be made by hardening grounded soy with bittern water. Some Korean people make their own tofu at home.

I made this dish to bring to my church potluck. It was Korean church, so I worried that all other Korean dishes would be too spicy or too strong for my American husband. So I prepared this mild soft 'Boiled Tofu Blocks' to compensate his palate and he loved it!

Here goes the recipe ~!

Boiled Tofu blocks with soy sauce (Korean name: Tofu Jorim)

<Ingredients: 2servings>

1 tofu (extra firm)

Half onion

1/4 red bell pepper

Chopped green onion

<sauce>

Grounded garlic 1 table spoons

Soy sauce 2 table spoons

Sesame oil 2 tea spoons

1 packet of sweetener or sugar

White wine or water 1 table spoon

 a pinch of grounded black pepper

Dried red pepper powder 1 tea spoon (you can skip, if you don't like spicy flavor)

1. Cut the tofu in half and slice them 1cm or 0.5" thickness

2. Wipe tofu with paper towels. By doing so, when you fry tofu in the pan, it will less splash oil. Also tofu gets cooked quickly.

3. Sprinkle salt and pepper

4. While letting tofu get dried, prepare the sauce.
Mix all prepared seasonings together:
ground garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, white wine, sweetener and black pepper
(except dried red pepper powder)

Sesame oil from Korea

Mix them all together without red pepper powder

5. Slice onion & red bell pepper thinly
Chop green onion

6. Spray cooking oil into the pan and fry the tofu until the surface of tofu turns to yellowish.
Start with high flame and reduce to medium flame as tofu gets cooked.

7. Once tofu turns to yellow both sides, add the vegetables and the sauce to tofu. Try to put the sauce onto the tofu evenly.
Boil the tofu with medium to low flame until the sauce is mostly absorbed by tofu.

8. Most of sauce is absorbed by tofu, add dried red pepper powder at last. You can skip this step if you don't like spicy taste.

9. Serve with cooked rice. You can mix with rice or eat as side dish for rice.

Enjoy!

Finito!
