Tofu Steak

Yesterday was my son's birthday. He loves meat, so I prepared pork rib BBQ for my son. But my husband is vegetarian.
So I prepared Tofu Steak for him.

cooking time: 30 min
Difficulty: Easy
😁😁

Ta da~

I already started eating before taking a picture. You can see the holes in the tofu!

This Tofu Steak can be a diet food if you eat it alone.
I used oriental dressing for Tofu Steak and balsamic sauce for the vegetables.
The visual of the dish is so great that you can serve this food for your dinner invitation, too!

<ingredient: 1 - 2 servings>

1 tofu (extra firm)
cooking oil 1 T spoon
pinch of salt and pepper
assorted vegetables: you can use any vegetables from your refrigerator.
I used mushrooms, tomatoes, zucchini & red bell pepper.
Balsamic sauce

<Oriental Dressing>
1 t spoon of ground garlic
1 T spoon of soy sauce
1 T spoon of olive oil
1 T spoon of lemon juice or vinegar (I use both)
1 T spoon of honey
1 packet of sweetener or sugar (you can skip this if you want to avoid sweet taste)
pinch of ground black pepper

<Making Tofu Steak>

1. First slice the tofu like below photo. The point is not cutting the tofu entirely. By cutting like this, only top area of tofu is sliced while the bottom is still one piece. The cuts are for making tofu cooked quickly.
Also inside of tofu can be cooked evenly, too.

Put chopsticks perpendicular direction from the knife

As you put chopsticks perpendicular position from tofu cutting direction, the knife can't cut the tofu completely. Only 2/3 depth is sliced.

I cut the tofu into half for quicker cooking. But you don't need to do that. One entire checker sliced tofu looks better.

2. Wipe the tofu gently with paper towels to dry it.
And sprinkle salt and pepper on the surface.

3. Place the tofu inside of an air-fryer oven. I placed a piece of parchment paper underneath the tofu. It makes easier to pick up the tofu out of the oven after baking.
If you don't have an air-fryer, you can use regular oven.
Apply 1T spoon of cooking oil onto the surface of tofu evenly.

4. Set the temperature 400 F and bake the tofu for 15-20 minutes.
Depends on your air-fryer type or oven, the time varies. Hence please check your tofu after 10 - 15 minutes of baking. Bake the tofu until the surface turns to yellow color like the photo below.

I baked the tofu and the vegetables together

5. I forgot to take a photo when I took tofu out of the air-fryer. However, when color turns to yellow, it is okay to eat.
Don't forget to choose an extra firm tofu. I asked my husband to pick up a tofu when he did grocery shopping, so he picked up just a 'firm' tofu. Extra firm tofu is usually better to cook as the shape sustains well.

6. Put the baked tofu on the middle of plate and place the vegetables around the tofu.

<Making Oriental Dressing>

1. Mixed 1 tea spoon of ground garlic, 1 T spoon of soy sauce, 1 T spoon of olive oil,
1 T spoon of lemon juice or vinegar, 1 T spoon of honey & 1 packet of sweetener or sugar.

2. Gently stir them until honey and sugar dissolve completely.

I plated Tofu Steak with Oriental Dressing and spray balsamic sauce onto the vegetables.

The Oriental Dressing is a perfect match with this bland Tofu Steak.

I prefer glaze type balsamic sauce

This simple but sophisticated Tofu dish will delight you and your family for sure!

This dish can be a perfect potluck or party dish!

ENJOY~!
FINITO!
